How to Communicate with Coaches, Boosters, and Fencers

Here’s how you can communicate with coaches, parents, and other fencers during the season. To help keep everyone informed, we have set up several communication tools.

  • Email. 

Weekly blasts and other parent communications are sent from fencingmontclair@gmail.com  Please add this email address to your contact list. Send a request if you do not already receive updates from this address. Booster co-presidents can be reached via fencingmontclair@gmail.com with any questions, concerns, etc.  Don’t hesitate to reach out!  If you need to contact our Head Coach, Donovan Holtz, you can reach him at dholtz@greenstoriesllc.com.

  • The Remind App

It’s very important that team members register for the Remind App to receive notices from the Coaches and Captains! Most up-to-the-minute changes to the team schedule, bus departure info, report/set-up times, upcoming events and quick alert information will be sent this way.  Parents/guardians should also register for the parent Remind to receive information from the Booster Club. One is exclusively for coaches and students, the other is for parent-coach-booster communications. Here’s how to join your designated group

Instructions for STUDENTS to join Remind:

  1. text this number: 81010

After the student has done that, they should receive text confirmation.

Instructions for PARENTS/GUARDIANS to join Remind:

  1. text this number: 81010

  2. text this message @mhsfen

After the guardian does that, they will receive a text referencing the original administrator, Jodi Paroff. Enrollment is complete.

  • "MHS Fencing" Facebook group for team members and coaches. 

This is the FENCERS' page, where they communicate with each other and ask questions such as what time the bus leaves, whether there is practice tonight, or share a pasta party invite. This is a closed group— so if your fencer is not on this, he or she must ask a captain to put them on. This will be communicated to all fencers at the start of the season. It is important for team members to monitor this page for important information.  

Visit this site to purchase team clothing and pay booster dues in the shop, get info about the team, helpful tips, contact information for booster leaders and more.  This site is not used for time-sensitive alerts, but it does contain up-to-date practice and meet information. 

  • "Montclair Fencing Booster Club" Parent Facebook group (not for primary use)

This is a secondary social media forum for Parents, Guardians, Alums, and other friends and family of the team. Handy for sharing resources, information and congrats, it is not for time-sensitive comms and is not one of the team’s or Booster Club’s primary ways to communicate information during the season. You must request to be added to this group.

  • Meet Schedule - Subject to Change! 

The website has the preliminary meet schedule. You can download the “rSchool – Activity Scheduler” app to view the meet schedule and bus times. The district can change the meet and bus times as late as the day of - the live app will be the best source of timely info and any changes to the schedule going forward. Fencers receive time-sensitive updates via Remind and also sometimes through the Team Facebook page. Parents and guardians get the team’s weekly blast with the current schedule plus alerts via  Remind when there are changes. 

All Team Members MUST subscribe to the team's FB page and Remind, and check them regularly for info and updates.


Students are responsible for knowing the team schedule and communicating with their parents/guardians. Announcements are made at practice and through Remind and/or Facebook. Teammates are encouraged to communicate with each other via FB. Team rule of thumb: If confused, reach out to a captain or squad mate first.
